There are times when I go through a period where I have to debunk the old way of thinking by saying, “I will never mount up to anything or stay where I am at because it is comfortable.”
Some beliefs were imposed on us as a child by someone in our lives. These beliefs can affect our development if it isn’t dealt with.
These attitudes will cripple us and will prevent us from achieving anything we want to pursue in life.
- Procrastination – Putting off something important due to distractions such as watching television and spending too much on our social media.
- Laziness – This ties into procrastination because instead of being productive in our day, we either waste our time lounging around. For instance, when I woke up this morning, I didn’t feel like doing anything because it is Sunday. I felt lethargic and unproductive. But the moment I’ve got up and decided to take a shower, I felt energized and went on to record a podcast.
- Excuses – This mindset of feeling unqualified or feeling of not good enough. This is due to a lack of confidence and insecurity. Before I could pick up my cellphone and record myself in front of the camera, I shy away from doing because I was afraid of what people might think of me especially my family and friends.
I was a shy girl growing up that I sat at the very back where my teacher would not see me. I avoided making eye contact with my teacher because I didn’t want to be called out even if I knew the answer.Glennavelle
- Perfectionist. Another debilitating attitude that can prevent us from achieving anything in life. I have realized since I have embarked on this journey of starting a podcast and creating a Youtube channel that I am my worst enemy. I am highly critical of myself where if I don’t like the way I look or sound in the camera, I would delete it after I have invested many hours editing my video.
Fear – Ties in with being afraid of failures as well as wondering what would our family and friends think if we ever decide to do something different.
These are some of the crippling attitudes I believe that will prevent us from achieving and designing the kind of life you and I would want to achieve. At the end of the day, it is not up to someone else to change the trajectory of your life it is all up to you to make any changes and to go after the life you want.
It takes a risk and getting out of our comfort zone is a must to try anything in life. As for me, life without adventure is boring and ordinary. I believe you and I are made to live extraordinarily by refusing to live in fear.
