James 1:12, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love him.” Let no one say when he is tempted by evil nor does he himself tempt anyone I am tempted by God.
How Does Temptation Start?
- When we are drawn away by our own desires and enticed.
- It starts with the desire in the mind and heart before taking an action, you first contemplate, you replay it in your mind.
- The lust of the eyes started in Genesis 3:6 when Eve was enticed. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree desirable.
- The lust of the flesh. To make one wise so she took of its fruit and ate it.
James 1:15, “When desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” To conceive is devise in the mind, imagine, envision, realize
Consequences to their Disobedience
Physical death came forth the moment Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Satan had lied to them and left out the most crucial consequences of their disobedience. Satan only said that if they were to eat this fruit they will be like God. He never revealed the whole truth.
Because of Adam and Even’s rebellious act, we have suffered greatly from the consequences of physical death and spiritual death. All of us are going to experience two deaths, physical and spiritual. The first death is from our body that will go back to dust, secondly, spiritual death when we are separated from God for all eternity. This why Jesus offered himself for us so that we will are promised of eternal life with Him.
How to respond to temptation?
James 1:16, “Do not be deceived.” Run, walk-away, and ask the Holy Spirit for strength and wisdom. The battle starts in our mind and we must recognize the origin of a particular thought. Is it from you, from God or from the devil himself?
Temptation starts in the mind. Before you take an action, you will contemplate it in your mind. Jesus said that you have already committed an adultery way before you have touched the person, if you have already lusted in your mind, in God’s eyes, you have already committed adultery.
James 1:21-23, “Therefore, lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word which is able to save your souls. Be doers of the word and not hearers only.”
Ask the Holy Spirit for help and discernment to recognize temptation in your life. Pray and run away from the situation.
