There is nothing I would say that is new under the sun. We have plenty of preachers and teachers yet we all must be reminded to run the race with endurance and not stop in the middle of the race.
How do we strive to attain the crown of life?
1 Corinthians 9:24, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it obtain a perishable crown but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus, not with uncertainty, thus I fight not as one who beats the air.” Paul is simply saying that he doesn’t fight with no aim, but he knows what his long term goal is to fight the good fight of faith. He went on to say, I discipline my body and bring it into subjection when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. – Paul had to subdue his fleshly desires and had to learn to walk in the spirit.
We can learn from the Israelite Example:
Old Testament Examples
1 Corinthians 10:1-13
10 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, 2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. 7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us [a]tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now [b]all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our [c]admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to [d]bear it.
What can we do will waiting for our Lord’s return?
Philippians 1:9, “that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment that you may approve the things that are excellent that you may be sincere without offense till the day of Christ being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ.“
We must do all things without complaining and disputing that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation among whom you shine as lights in the world holding fast the word of life so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain. – Philippians 2:14-16
Revelation 2:10 Be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life.
